Visitor Frequently Asked Questions
We’re glad you’re here! Whether you've attended church your whole life or never set foot inside a church before, Christ Church is a safe place to bring your needs, doubts, questions and curiosity, regardless of your beliefs or background. We invite you to come and take a look around. We have wonderful programs for children, youth, and adults alike.
Am I welcome to any service?
We welcome all to attend any of the services we offer including our Sunday Eucharists at 8:00 a.m. (Spoken) and 10:00 a.m. (Sung). We have Nursery Childcare available. Sunday Church School begins at 10:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall, and the children return to church in time to receive the Eucharist with their families. Thursdays we offer Bible Study at 10:30 am. During the season of Lent, we gather for Evening Prayer at 6:00 pm followed by a simple supper.
May I receive communion?
All are welcome to the communion table regardless of tradition or denomination. We feel that all baptized members of any age, including the youngest children are welcome to receive bread and wine at the Holy Eucharist. If you are worshipping with us and have not been baptized and you believe God is calling you to come forward, we encourage you to explore the journey of faith with us, and discover what it means to be baptized. We also know that some may prefer to come forward and receive a blessing from the clergy, rather than receive the bread and wine.

How do I find out about weddings and baptisms?
Your questions may be answered on the Weddings and Baptisms pages. For weddings and baptism schedules, please contact Julia Hoplamazian, our Parish Administrator. She can be reached at (516) 922 – 6377 or via email: office@christchurchoysterbay.org.
How do I get on your mailing list?
To be placed on Christ Church’s mailing list please email the Parish Office with your mailing and email addresses: office@christchurchoysterbay.org
How do I become a member of Christ Church Oyster Bay?
All those baptized here at the church are members, in the conviction that baptism is full initiation in the church. If you have been a member at another Episcopal Church, or a church of another denomination and wish to have your membership transferred here, call the Parish Office and we’ll tell you how to accomplish that. Our annual service of Confirmation is a way to be identified with the Episcopal Church, as the Bishop presides at Confirmation and his presence is a sign of your wish to become an Episcopalian.

It means that you attend regularly, and as the Prayer Book says, you work, pray and give for the sake of the kingdom of God, as its vision is expressed here at Christ Church Oyster Bay.
Will I be expected to give money?
In addition to the collection plate, we carry out our mission through annual pledges made by our members. Our work wouldn’t happen without these commitments. Our annual budgets, our plans for each year, are shaped by those pledges. We won’t badger you about money. But we also will be honest with you about our hopes, our vision, and our needs. We encourage all members to support our efforts with their financial resources, their time and their talents. We invite people to think about what proportion of their resources they wish to give to God, as an expression of gratitude.
What should I wear to Sunday worship?
You are welcome to worship no matter how you choose to dress. You will find that at Christ Church some people dress more formally, and others, especially teens, dress more casually. We invite you to look through the photos on our website to get to know us and our style.
