Concerts at Christ Church Presents

The Easter Concert Series

 

For the fourth year, Concerts at Christ Church presents free recitals each Sunday afternoon of the Easter Season at 4pm.

(except Mother’s Day)

 

The Easter Concert Series begins April 11 and ends May 23.

A Tribute to Beverly Sills                               4pm

Hear the arias that made her famous, sung with love and reverence, and share insights about her career including stories in her own words about her life and loves.

Emotions of Love                                              4pm

/files/Photos/music/Christine Heath.jpgTake a ride with emotion in this journey of the ups and downs we all face when it comes to emotions in romance.  In their first appearance in Oyster Bay, the talented duo of Christine Marie Heath and pianist Andrew Byrne showcase their special blend of hilarious and sentimental, featuring an assortment of tunes from Broadway hits such as Avenue Q, Thoroughly Modern Millie, South Pacific, Guys and Dolls, and I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.

The MaNi Trio                                                  4pm

/files/Photos/music/Mani 1.jpgBased in Brooklyn, the MaNi trio presents great performers from New York City in a wide variety of combinations and venues. From the standard classical repertoire all the way to the genre-bending music of the current generation of composers, MaNi does it all in an approachable, come-as-you-are style format.  Co-directors  Emi Kagawa (pianist) and  Joel Lambdin (violinist) will be joined by cellist Ella Toovy in an ecletic recital featuring Antonin Dvořak’s “Dumky” Piano Trio, Orianna Webb’s Piano Trio, and Arvo Pärt’s etherial Spiegel in dem Spiege (Mirror in the Mirror).

Sarah Adams Hoover              4pm

    An Evening of French Music

Soprano Sarah Adams Hoover and pianist Arielle Levioff reunite at Christ Church to present a delightful evening of songs and instrumental music.  The recital features French art song, a favorite of both performers, and works of the solo piano repertoire, including the music of Claude Debussy, and music by two of the most famous female French composers, Cécile Chaminade and Lili Boulanger.

Concerts at Christ Church Presents

From Bach to Bernstein                                  4pm

/files/Photos/music/Elisa (Lo-Res).bmpIn her first recital in Oyster Bay, accomplished soprano Elisa Dragotto joins with flutist Amber Maly and pianist Michael C. Haigler in a musical journey of songs from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary eras.  Those who enjoy the lighter side will also hear J. S. Bach’s comic “Coffee Cantata”, and tunes from stage and screen of Rodgers and Hart, Bock and Harnick, Leslie Bricusse, and Leonard Bernstein, to name a few.

Pentecost Sunday

Choral Eucharist                                             10am

Happy Birthday!  The end of the great fifty days of Easter, Pentecost Sunday is considered the birthday of the church.  This celebration of the Holy Spirit in song features the Combined Choirs of Christ Church.

Fourth Annual NYSSMA Concert                 4pm

Come hear the talent of young musicians in the Oyster Bay area as they celebrate their participation in the New York State School Music Association Festival. (May 23 at 4pm at Christ Church)

Old Fashioned Hymn Sing                            10am

Celebrate the great Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in the fourth annual “Old Fashioned Hymn Sing”, featuring gospel-style music of the American South.

(This service will include Eucharist.)

Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony

Be sure not to miss the culmination of the 2009-2010 concert season!  The Christ Church Festival Orchestra, Christ Church Adult Choir, and many special guests, conducted by Artistic Director Michael C. Haigler, present the original choral symphony, the monumental Symphony No. 9 by Ludwig van Beethoven.  This free concert also features mezzo-soprano Tynan Davis and soprano Carrie Culver.

This is a FREE concert and is open to all.
